Last Friday I headed down to the Cape to do the whole Christmas-thing with my parents. I had made arrangements at work to be on vacation until January 4th, 2005. Everything was going swimmingly until Sunday December 26th. That night the Cape got blasted with more than a foot of snow and my parent's neighborhood lost electricity. FOR 40 HOURS. It didn't come back on until 12:30 yesterday afternoon. It got down to 45 degrees inside their house.
At least we had a propane stove so we could make coffee.
Otherwise, well…
Maybe it's better we not discuss what might have happened had I not been able to make coffee.

Man, it's almost Christmas.
I've still got lots of stuff to buy.
The big ones have already been covered; I always start with the presents for the Girlfriend, the Mom, and the Nieces.
Everybody else can consider themselves lucky if they get my Christmas gift anytime before St. Patrick's Day.

The Pedro era in Boston is over.
I think Pedro Martinez was one of the all-time best pitchers the Red Sox have ever had, and I wish he was still in Boston, but not at a guaranteed $13 million every year for the next 4 years.
I, except for one or two exceptions (Ray Bourque), am like most sport fans. I "root for the laundry". My allegiance shall remain with whoever currently wears the Boston Red Sox jersey, and not head to NY with Pedro.
The fact is that I've lost the last tiny shred of respect I had for the guy. I can't believe how he is ripping everyone now that he's a Met.
I have to admit that I always knew Pedro Martinez was an ass.
What he is saying in the press is an insult to the fans of the Boston Red Sox. For a guy who puts such a high price on respect he sure doesn't show one bit of it to anyone else.
I know that these days MLB players treat the game as a business, and that's all this was. Pedro took the best deal that brings him the largest pile of cash. It's still hard for me to look at the game that way.
Have fun facing the Yankee pitchers when you get up to bat, punk.

As you walk in the front door of the place where I work there is a 4-foot tall animatronic Santa that dances and says "Ho, ho, ho, Merry Christmas!" every time it senses movement.
It kind of freaks me out.
He's got that weird I-come-alive-at-night look in his eyes.
